Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘leapfrog Liverpool in race for Renato Sanches’

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly leading the race to sign Renato Sanches from Lille in January.

The 24-year-old was a key part of Lille’s surprise Ligue 1 title triumph last season but has struggled with injuries so far this term, limiting him to just four starts.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Sanches during the summer as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, but no deal materialised.

Fichajes reports that Wolves have now jumped ahead of Liverpool in the running to sign the Portuguese international and could make their move in January.

Sanches would join a strong Portuguese contingent at Molineux, with compatriots Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo, Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto, Francisco Trincao and Fabio Silva already at the club.

The midfielder joined Lille from Bayern Munich in 2019 and has gone on to make 66 appearances for the club.
