West Ham United ‘pushing to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez’

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Benfica striker Darwin Nunez before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

The 22-year-old is the latest name who the Hammers have identified as a potential target, with David Moyes desperate to recruit a new centre-forward to provide competition for Michail Antonio.

According to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, West Ham are pushing to sign Nunez with one of his sources claiming that a fee has been agreed between both clubs.

Sheth, however, adds that the deal could prove challenging to complete as the Uruguayan is currently away on international duty in his native South America for their World Cup qualifiers.

Nunez, who is under contract with Benfica until June 2025, has previously been linked with a host of clubs across Europe, including the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund.

Benfica’s talisman has excelled for the Portuguese giants so far this season, netting 20 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.

West Ham are also understood to been keeping tabs on Reims‘ teenage forward Hugo Ekitike and Toulouse‘s English striker Rhys Healey.
