Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane shoots down Bayern Munich speculation

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has insisted that he is fully focused on his exploits with the Lilywhites amid persistent speculation surrounding a move to Bayern Munich.

The England captain was unable to force an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer and initially struggled for form under Nuno Espirito Santo after the saga.

However, the arrival of Antonio Conte saw Kane rediscover his golden touch and fire Tottenham back into the Champions League with 17 goals from 38 Premier League games last term.

The 29-year-old has less than two years left to run on his contract, though, and Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann and CEO Oliver Kahn have publicly declared their interest in Kane.

The striker was questioned on those rumours by the media ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, and he quickly shot down such speculation.

“I’m focused on Tottenham Hotspur and trying to do my best for a top, top club. All my focus is on Tottenham and trying to win with them,” football.london quotes Kane as saying.

Manager Conte was previously questioned on Bayern’s comments earlier in the summer, and he blasted Kahn and Nagelsmann’s public interest as “disrespectful”, saying: “Honestly I didn’t hear this. For sure I’m a coach who doesn’t talk about players from other teams.

“I don’t know why [this happened]. The situation at Tottenham is very clear. The plan is very clear with the club. Harry is a part of the project. He is a very important part of the project and yeah only rumours.

“At the same time, I don’t like to speak about players from another club. If I want to do something I go to speak to the club, not through the media. I think maybe it’s a bit disrespectful for the other club. This is my way. This is my way to face the situation with other players.”

Kane heads into Wednesday’s clash having scored his eighth Premier League goal in nine matches against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend, but he has gone three Champions League games without scoring.

Despite his strong domestic form, Kane’s eight-goal haul has been overshadowed by the early success of Erling Braut Haaland, who already has 15 top-flight goals to his name this term.

Kane sits second in the race for the Golden Boot – already a whopping seven behind the Manchester City man – but the Tottenham man is not taking much notice of Haaland’s prolific form.

“I’m not someone who likes to think about other players or talk about them. He’s had a fantastic start to the season and full credit to him, but it’s nothing in my control,” Kane added.

“It’s going well in the Premier League and I’d like to score a few more in the Champions League for sure. People are talking about him and rightly so, but I’m just concentrating on what I can do.”

Tottenham sit second in Champions League Group D after last week’s 0-0 draw with Frankfurt – level with the German side on four points and two adrift of group leaders Sporting Lisbon.
