Toni Kroos keen to retire at Real Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has expressed his desire to remain at the Bernabeu for the rest of his career, with his current deal set to expire in 2023.

The 32-year-old remains part of Los Blancos’ starting team, scoring three goals and providing as many assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this campaign, and he is keen to earn a contract extension.

After arriving at the Bernabeu from Bayern Munich in 2014, lengthening the German’s contract by one season will see him bring up 10 years at Real Madrid in two years time.

Kroos told Sky Sports News in Germany: “I deliberately chose the contract period when I last extended, because then I would be 33 and it be a good age to think about how to continue.

“However, I don’t need to think about it, there is an incredible relationship with the club that I would never put at stake for some kind of speculation.

“I think that is the case on both sides, I want to end my career here and it will happen that way, when exactly that will come I can’t answer exactly, if that will be in 2023 or a year or two later.

“I know what I have at the club and they know what they have in me. I still feel great, but you have to adapt to the level that your body is at, also you have to have the desire.”

During his long spell at Real Madrid to date, Kroos has provided 83 assists and scored 25 goals in 340 appearances for the club.
