Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly clashed over Cristiano Ronaldo?

Thomas Tuchel reportedly disagreed with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly over the possible signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tuchel was relieved of his duties as Chelsea boss on Wednesday morning following a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the club’s Champions League opener, with Graham Potter set to be named as his replacement.

The German won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup in his time with the Blues, but his side experienced an inconsistent start to the 2022-23 campaign, winning three of their seven competitive games.

However, rather than matters on the pitch, disagreements off the field may have contributed to Tuchel’s Chelsea departure.

According to The Mirror, Tuchel defied Boehly’s wish to sign Ronaldo, who was believed to be looking for a new club in the summer transfer window.

Although Boehly met the player’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss a deal, Tuchel was reluctant to bring the Manchester United forward to Stamford Bridge.

The 49-year-old reportedly told Boehly that Ronaldo would “destroy the spirit in my dressing room”, while the Chelsea owner was keen to sign the Portugal international.

While Ronaldo remained at Old Trafford, Chelsea opted to strengthen their forward line by signing Tuchel’s former Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on transfer deadline day.
