A number of Manchester United players have allegedly been left ‘baffled’ by the decision to appoint Michael Carrick as the club’s caretaker boss.
United announced on Sunday that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had left his position in the dugout after a run of seven defeats in 13 matches.
At a time when United will look to appoint a replacement on an interim basis, Carrick has been placed in caretaker charge for the foreseeable future.
According to ESPN, several senior players have questioned the mindset of placing another familiar face in control of the first team.
The report suggests that there is doubt over whether Carrick, a member of Solskjaer’s backroom staff, can make any difference in a role of more seniority.
United face a run of fixtures which sees them face Villarreal, Chelsea and Arsenal in successive matches, the first of those taking place in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
