Liverpool ‘aiming to sign Jude Bellingham next summer’

Liverpool are reportedly planning to move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham during next summer’s transfer window.

The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for BVB since his arrival from Birmingham City in 2020, contributing 12 goals and 19 assists in 97 appearances in all competitions.

Last term, the England international scored six goals and provided 14 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions, while he has started the 2022-23 campaign with two goals in seven outings.

Bellingham was on the scoresheet in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, as Dortmund started their European campaign with a 3-0 success over Copenhagen.

The teenager still has another three years left to run on his contract, and BVB director Sebastian Kehl recently said that the German club were hopeful of keeping him beyond next summer.

When asked about the Englishman, Kehl told Sky90: “I hope that Jude Bellingham will stay at BVB beyond 2023. I can see he feels super comfortable with us.”

However, Bellingham is widely expected to leave the Bundesliga giants next summer, with Manchester United and Real Madrid also believed to be keen to sign him.

The midfielder was involved for England during their UEFA Nations League fixtures in June, and he is widely expected to be named in the Three Lions squad for the 2022 World Cup.

According to journalists Christian Falk and Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool will attempt to sign the former Birmingham youngster during next summer’s transfer window.

The Reds decided against moving for a new midfielder in the recent market despite their injury troubles in the middle of the park, which have contributed to their disappointing start to the season.

There have been suggestions that Dortmund value Bellingham in the region of £60m, and Real Madrid are thought to view him as an ideal replacement for Casemiro, who joined Manchester United over the summer.

Dortmund resisted a sale during the recent market, having already lost Erling Braut Haaland, with the Norway international making the move to Manchester City.

Liverpool, in addition to the likes of Man United and Chelsea, are believed to have been in the mix to sign Bellingham from Birmingham in July 2020, but he ultimately decided to continue his career in Germany.
