How Germany could line up against Oman

Germany will take on Oman on Wednesday in their final fixture before the 2022 World Cup, with the national side beginning their tournament against Japan on November 23.

Head coach Hansi Flick is expected to select close to his first-choice XI for this match, before making changes in the second period to keep players fresh for the competition opener.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to be unavailable for selection due to a stomach issue, but Flick is otherwise expected to have a full complement to choose from.

Thilo Kehrer, Niklas Sule, Antonio Rudiger and David Raum might be Germany’s back four heading into the World Cup, so all four could start this match, while Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane are expected to play wide, with Kai Havertz operating through the middle.

There are question marks when it comes to the spot behind Havertz, as Jamal Musiala‘s excellent form for Bayern Munich this season means that Thomas Muller has real competition for that position.

Joshua Kimmich is a certainty in central midfield, but Ilkay Gundogan might start alongside him for this match even if Leon Goretzka gets the nod for the World Cup opener.

Mario Gotze, Karim Adeyemi and Youssoufa Moukoko will also be hoping to play some minutes in this match, with the latter potentially making his debut, having been selected in the squad for the World Cup despite not yet featuring for the senior side.

Niclas Fullkrug is also in the squad for the upcoming tournament despite not making a single appearance for the senior team.

Germany possible starting lineup: Neuer; Kehrer, Rudiger, Sule, Raum; Kimmich, Gundogan; Gnabry, Musiala, Sane; Havertz
