Chelsea ‘looking to complete triple signing before end of transfer window’

Chelsea are reportedly working to sign three more players before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Blues have been active during the current market, bringing in Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Gabriel Slonina.

However, the London giants are still working on deals for other players, and according to the Evening Standard, Thomas Tuchel‘s side are looking to complete a triple signing.

The report claims that Barcelona‘s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains the team’s leading target in the final third of the field, with Tuchel desperate to boost his attacking options for the 2022-23 campaign.

Sterling has made the move to Stamford Bridge this summer, but Timo Werner has been allowed to re-join RB Leipzig on a permanent deal, while Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on loan.

Aubameyang has only played eight minutes of football in Barcelona’s first two La Liga matches this season, and he was an unused substitute against Real Sociedad on Sunday night amid the speculation surrounding his future.

The former Arsenal forward has lost his starting role at Camp Nou to Robert Lewandowski this season, and it is believed that he is open to returning to the Premier League before the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the Blues are believed to still be working on a deal for Anthony Gordon, having had a £45m bid for the Everton attacker rejected last week.

The Toffees remain determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old but are likely to find it difficult to resist another big offer in the latter stages of the transfer window.

Chelsea’s spending this summer could ultimately exceed £300m, with Leicester centre-back Fofana also wanted by last season’s FA Cup and EFL Cup finalists.

The Blues are believed to have had two offers in the region of £60m rejected by the Foxes, but the 21-year-old was left out of the squad against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, with Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers admitting that the defender was not in the right frame of mind to play.

After the contest with the Saints, Rodgers admitted that he could not guarantee Fofana would remain at the King Power Stadium past the transfer deadline.

“I don’t know at this stage. There have been a few offers in for some of the players but nowhere near the valuation the club would want to sell,” Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

“None of them are for sale. That is the reality of it, however, I know how the game works and how the business works, but at this moment in time there are a few weeks to go in the window.

“I don’t know what will happen but my only concentration is the players we have here and getting them back to that level of confidence and turning 60 minutes of good work into 90 minutes of good work and results.

“In terms of Wesley, just a young player who is not quite in the right frame of mind at the moment to play. A lot going on behind the scenes, which I understand. It’s a difficult moment for him.

“He’s a good kid, he’s been great for us whilst he’s been here and at this moment it’s a difficult one for him. You can’t afford that… certainly playing a Premier League game if you’re not 100% fully focused.”

Chelsea suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season against Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, going down 3-0 to the Whites at Elland Road.
