Buffalo Bills storm past Los Angeles Rams in NFL season opener

The Buffalo Bills stormed past reigning Super Bowl champions Los Angeles Rams 31-10 in Thursday’s NFL season opener.

The Bills found themselves 7-0 up after the first quarter before the Rams brought the scores level at 10-10 before half time, but the Super Bowl holders’ offence was quelled in the third and fourth quarters.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen shone with three touchdown passes for 297 yards, as well as two interceptions, to prevent the Rams from tallying in the second half.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs received a 53-yard touchdown pass from Allen in the fourth quarter of the contest, as the Rams became only the third Super Bowl champion team since 2004 to lose their season opener.

Diggs remained grounded after the game, though, telling ESPN: “I wouldn’t really say it was a signature win. I would say it was the first game. Because people win their first game and can lose every last one of them after that.

“So, try not to ride that wave. We did some good things, we had four turnovers. Four turnovers can cost you the game. Luckily our defence, they stepped up, they played a hell of a game. We got to continue to get better on offence. We did some good things but got to get back in the lab.”

Sean McDermott‘s team now have the luxury of an 11-day rest before meeting the Tennessee Titans, while the Rams are up against the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
