Brentford to rival Arsenal for Mykhaylo Mudryk?

Brentford to rival Arsenal for Mykhaylo Mudryk?

Brentford have reportedly identified Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk as a potential signing ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Head coach Thomas Frank has already enjoyed a productive summer, making as many as five first-team additions since the club impressed in their first-ever campaign in the Premier League.

The Bees can also be satisfied with their start to 2022-23, collecting six points from their opening five matches and only suffering one defeat.

However, Frank remains open to conducting further business in the market, providing that any new arrival strengthens his squad.

According to The Mirror, Brentford are willing to negotiate a deal for Mudryk, who has been tipped to become one of Ukraine’s top players in the coming years.

The 21-year-old made his senior international debut earlier this year and he has since earned five caps for his country.

That step up was recognition for having contributed two goals and seven assists from 11 appearances in the Ukrainian top flight before it was suspended after Russia’s military invasion.

The new season has since gotten underway with Mudryk participating for the full 90 minutes in Shakhtar’s opening two matches.

Nevertheless, Shakhtar are said to be willing to do business for a fee in the region of £25m, a figure which would eclipse the £17.1m which Brentford spent on Keane Lewis-Potter earlier in the summer.

However, Brentford are not the only team who have been monitoring the situation with Arsenal and Everton also said to be interested in the wideman.

According to transfer Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners held discussions with the appropriate parties earlier this month before failing to register an official bid.

As far as Everton are concerned, the Toffees allegedly had a €30m (£25.93m) proposal rejected by Shakhtar as recently as last week.

The structure of the proposal remains unclear, potentially giving hope to Brentford if they are prepared to pay a bigger fee up-front.
