Barcelona ‘still hopeful of keeping Ousmane Dembele’

Barcelona have reportedly not given up hope of extending Ousmane Dembele‘s contract and believe there is still a chance for the winger to commit his future to the club.

The 24-year-old will see his current deal at Camp Nou expire in June and he is now free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany recently revealed that the club will look to sell the Frenchman in January after he turned down multiple offers to extend his deal.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Juventus have all been credited with an interest in Dembele; however, Barcelona will now attempt to make another contract proposal to the winger.

Marca reports that Dembele’s agent is in Catalonia and he is set to hold talks with Barca’s hierarchy ‘in the next few hours’ to discuss his client’s future once again.

The report adds that Barcelona believe they have tabled the best possible contract offer, given their financial constraints, while head coach Xavi has reiterated to the winger that he would be part of his first-team plans if he commits his future to the club.

Dembele has made 129 appearances for the Catalan giants across all competitions, scoring 31 goals and registering 23 assists.
