Thomas Tuchel ‘did not push for January Chelsea signings’

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was reportedly content with making no first-team additions during the January transfer window.

A serious knee injury to Ben Chilwell led to the Blues being in the market for a like-for-like replacement at left wing-back.

Meanwhile, Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who has previously played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, was heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

However, according to The Athletic, Tuchel had no burning desire to make signings at the midway point of campaign, instead preferring to focus on bringing in fresh faces later in 2022.

The report suggests that Tuchel was more interested in ensuring that everything was in order ahead of making bids for the likes of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Having missed out on recalling Emerson Palmieri, Chelsea have Marcos Alonso, Kenedy, Dylan Williams and Lewis Hall as alternatives for Chilwell, while the squad is already well stocked with offensive players.
