Thomas Frank signs five-year Brentford contract

Head coach Thomas Frank has penned a new five-year contract at Premier League club Brentford.

As a result of establishing the Bees in the top flight, Frank has been linked with a number of vacant positions at bigger clubs since the start of the campaign.

However, no move has ever come close to materialising, the 49-year-old reiterating his happiness with life in West London.

As a reward for his impact at the club and to end any future speculation, Brentford and Frank have moved to agree a long-term deal lasting until 2027.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Frank said: “Being a head coach at a club is like a relationship; there are highs and lows. I have been here six years in total, which is a long time in modern football, and I’d like to say thank you to the fans for the support you give us – the players, the staff, everyone involved with the club.

“The warmth, support and kindness every time I meet a Bees fan has been amazing and it gives me extra energy to continue the work going forward.

“We attacked the Premier League in the first season and we’re attacking it in our second season. I’m looking forward to hopefully continuing our progress and creating more magic moments together.”

After initially spending time on the backroom staff of Dean Smith before his departure to Aston Villa, Frank has emerged as one of Brentford’s most successful managers since his promotion in October 2018.

The Dane guided Brentford to their first-ever promotion to the Premier League by progressing through the Championship playoffs in 2020-21.

In their first year in the division, they were expected to be relegated, but Frank’s side were able to comfortably avoid a return to the second tier by finishing in 13th position.

Brentford have since been able to attract higher-profile players and they currently occupy 10th position in the table with 19 points from 15 games.

Last time out, Brentford recorded one of the shock results of the current Premier League campaign as they defeated Manchester City by a 2-1 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium.

Brentford return to competitive action on Boxing Day when they play host to Tottenham Hotspur, who sit 10 points ahead of Brentford in fourth position.
