Robert Lewandowski fires Barcelona top of La Liga

Barcelona have moved above bitter rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga courtesy of a 1-0 away win over Mallorca this evening.

The in-form Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the game as Barca made it six La Liga victories on the bounce, while they also kept a sixth clean sheet from seven games this season.

Xavi‘s side have shipped just one goal all campaign, and they were once again resolute at the back with Mallorca struggling to lay a glove on their illustrious visitors.

Coupled with Lewandowski’s prolific start to life at the club, that has made for a winning formula for the Spanish giants, who have dropped just two points from the first 21 on offer this term to move one clear of Real Madrid.

The summer signing now has nine goals from his first seven La Liga outings for Barcelona, equalling Lionel Messi‘s club record and sitting just one behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s division record for most goals in the opening seven games of a season.

More to follow.
