Real Madrid missing two players for La Liga clash with Sevilla

Real Madrid will be missing Dani Ceballos and Mariano Diaz for Saturday’s La Liga clash with Sevilla.

Ceballos has not been available for selection since the start of October due to a hamstring problem, and the Spanish midfielder will again miss out for the European and Spanish champions this weekend.

Mariano, meanwhile, was not involved in the squad against Elche on Wednesday due to a knock, and he remains on the sidelines for the contest with Sevilla.

Thibaut Courtois, however, is back in the squad, with the Belgium international recovering from the back problem that has forced him to miss the team’s last six matches.

The 30-year-old’s return will see Andriy Lunin drop out of the XI despite some impressive performances from the Ukraine international in recent weeks.

There had been some concern over Karim Benzema‘s fitness, with the Frenchman being forced to leave Friday’s training session due to some muscular discomfort.

However, the striker has been included in the squad for the clash with Sevilla and is expected to lead the line once again.

Real Madrid will enter the contest off the back of a 3-0 win over Elche on Wednesday night, which followed a 3-1 success over Barcelona in El Clasico last weekend.

Los Blancos are currently three points clear of second-placed Barcelona in the table and will have the chance to again open up a six-point advantage in this match.

There are likely to be three changes from the side that started at Elche, with Courtois, Ferland Mendy and Aurelien Tchouameni potentially replacing Lunin, Antonio Rudiger and Rodrygo.

Sevilla have had a difficult start to the season, boasting just 10 points from their 10 matches, which has left them down in 12th position in the table.

However, the visitors are unbeaten since Jorge Sampaoli‘s return to the club as head coach, winning one and drawing three of their four games since Julen Lopetegui‘s departure.

“No team is invincible and we don’t think we are. We’re in good form right now and need to keep that up. We’re now facing a team that are trying to bounce back from a difficult start,” said Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti during his press conference ahead of this contest.

“Sevilla have improved and showed good attitude in the last few games. It won’t be easy.”

Real Madrid will finish October with matches against RB Leipzig and Girona in the Champions League and La Liga respectively, before opening November with a home European fixture against Celtic.
