Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma tests positive for COVID-19

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has become the latest player at the Parc des Princes to test positive for coronavirus.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad were hit with a number of COVID-related absences before the Coupe de France win over Vannes, including seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.

Danilo Pereira, Sergio Rico, Juan Bernat and Nathan Bitumazala all returned positive tests earlier this month, and while Bernat’s most recent test was negative, Donnarumma has now contracted the virus.

PSG said in a statement: “Gianluigi Donnarumma has tested positive for Covid-19. He has been placed in isolation and is subject to the appropriate health protocol. The tests carried out on Juan Bernat yesterday and today turned out to be negative. He will resume training tomorrow.”

The Euro 2020 winner is therefore set to miss Sunday’s Ligue 1 battle with Lyon, as Keylor Navas prepares to act as the last line of defence for the resumption of the French top flight.

Donnarumma has had a hard time displacing Navas in the first XI this season – starting just eight games in Ligue 1 and keeping three clean sheets in the process.
