Luis Campos “very happy” as Paris Saint-Germain sporting director despite exit reports

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luis Campos has denied reports claiming that he is set to leave the club.

The 58-year-old only joined the Ligue 1 champions in June after previously spending time as a technical director with Monaco and Lille.

A recent report from Le Parisien claims that Campos is on the verge of leaving the Parc de Princes after falling out with the club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and director of football Antero Henrique.

Campos allegedly feels ‘betrayed’ by PSG’s board and was left unhappy after the club failed to offload a number of players who were deemed surplus to requirements over the summer.

The Portuguese chief has recently been linked with a proposed switch to Chelsea, with new owner Todd Boehly on the lookout for a new sporting director.

Meanwhile, British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe – who currently owns Ligue 1 side Nice – is allegedly keen to appoint Campos as sporting director of Manchester United if his bid to take over the Red Devils is successful.

However, Campos insists that he is happy at PSG and intends to see out his contract at the Parc des Princes.

Speaking to Canal Plus before PSG’s 1-1 Champions League draw with Benfica on Tuesday night, Campos said: “It’s not true that I’m leaving Paris. I’m very happy to be here.

“I’m under contract for the next three years. My mission is to bring important trophies here at PSG”.

Campos has also denied reports suggesting that star forward Kylian Mbappe has asked to leave the club in the January transfer window.

“I see Kylian working. Kylian is an extraordinary professional… I see Kylian arriving with his teammates, happy every day and with a huge desire to work,” Campos told RMC Sport.

“I’m very surprised because I’m with Kylian Mbappe every day and he never asked me, and I just asked the president, he never asked to leave in January. I don’t think that he thinks about it because if he thinks about it, he’s going to tell me. He never told me, I know he never told the president, that he wants to leave in January.”

When asked whether the 23-year-old will stay beyond the winter window, Campos added: “In my opinion yes [he’s staying in January]. He never said anything to me. For me it’s clear that Kylian Mbappe is staying to follow his contract with PSG.”

Campos watched on at the Parc des Princes as Mbappe scored a record-breaking goal in PSG’s draw against Benfica, a result which keeps both sides level on points at the top of Group H with two matches remaining.
