Kevin Trapp confirms Manchester United snub

Kevin Trapp confirms that he has turned down an offer from Manchester United in order to stay with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 32-year-old has been identified as one of several goalkeeper targets by the Red Devils, who allowed number two Dean Henderson to join Nottingham Forest on loan earlier this summer.

A recent report claims that United offered Trapp a contract worth £180,000 per week, which would see him earn between £9m to £10m per year.

The German admitted earlier this week that it is “nice” to be linked with the Premier League giants, telling reporters: “As I said during my first spell at Frankfurt, it’s always nice when rumours like this come out. It’s a nice acknowledgement. But I can’t say anything about it.”

However, Trapp has since confirmed that he has informed all parties of his desire to remain with Frankfurt.

“I received a written proposal from Manchester United – world top club. Yesterday, I informed those responsible at both clubs that I had decided stay at Eintracht Frankfurt,” Trapp said via journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Trapp, who has two years remaining on his contract, has been an important first-team regular with the Bundesliga club for the last three seasons, and Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner recently revealed that he would like to keep hold of the goalkeeper.

“From a sporting point of view, I would of course like to keep such a great goalkeeper and person,” Glasner told reporters.

“He is a great role model and always one of the first to arrive at training. But I’m not the final decision-maker.”

Trapp has made a total of 261 appearances across two spells with Frankfurt, and he will be looking to build on an impressive 2021-22 campaign with another strong showing between the sticks this term, as he aims to receive an international call-up by Germany for the World Cup later this year.

Man United already seem to have turned their attention elsewhere, as they are reportedly in talks with Newcastle United over a loan move for Slovakian stopper Martin Dubravka.

The 33-year-old has fallen behind summer signing Nick Pope in the pecking order and is yet to make an appearance under manager Eddie Howe this season.

Borussia Monchengladbach‘s Yann Sommer, Benfica‘s Odysseas Vlachodimos and Leeds United‘s Illan Meslier have also been mooted with a potential move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United are believed to be prioritising a move for Ajax forward Antony, who is allegedly determined to reunite with Erik ten Hag within the next 48 hours.

So far this summer, the Red Devils have brought in four fresh faces in the former of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, the latter joining from Real Madrid on Monday.
