Kevin De Bruyne moves above Steven Gerrard, David Silva into fifth on all-time Premier League assist list

Kevin De Bruyne has surpassed the Premier League assist tallies of both Steven Gerrard and David Silva after setting up two goals in Manchester City‘s 6-3 victory at home to Manchester United on Sunday.

The 31-year-old was sitting in joint-seventh on the all-time list for Premier League assists with 92 along with former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard heading into the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgium was also just one behind Man City legend Silva, who notched up a total of 93 assists during his hugely successful 10-year spell with the Citizens.

However, De Bruyne provided two assists in the first half for hat-trick hero Erling Braut Haaland, which has seen him surpass the tallies set by both Gerrard and Silva in the Premier League.

De Bruyne now sits joint-fifth on the Premier League’s all-time assist list with 94 along with Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.

De Bruyne is now in a strong position to become only the fifth player in Premier League history to record a total of 100 assists in the competition.

City’s No.17 is currently eight assists behind Frank Lampard (102) in fourth place and nine behind Wayne Rooney (103) in third.

Cesc Fabregas sits second on the all-time list with 111 Premier League assists, while former Man United winger Ryan Giggs is way out in front at the top of the charts with 162 assists.

De Bruyne will also have his sights on breaking the all-time Premier League record for the most assists in a single season.

The playmaker currently holds the joint-record for the most Premier League assists with 20 during the 2018-19 campaign along with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who also provided 20 assists back in 2002-03.

De Bruyne has now provided eight assists in as many Premier League matches this season, four clear of teammate Bernardo Silva and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka in the 2022-23 charts.

Half of De Bruyne’s assists in the top flight have been for Haaland, who became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick in three successive home matches in the win over United.

Both Haaland (17) and De Bruyne (10) are now the highest scorer and assister in Europe’s top-five leagues across all competitions.

Pep Guardiola‘s side remain second in the Premier League table, one point behind leaders Arsenal and eight points clear of Man United in sixth, who have a game in hand.

City will now prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League home clash against Copenhagen before returning to Premier League action next Saturday when the welcome Southampton to the Etihad.
