Joao Pedro confirms Watford stay after Everton bid rejected

Watford attacker Joao Pedro has confirmed that he will be staying on at Vicarage Road after Everton failed in their efforts to sign him.

The 20-year-old’s future was called into question after Watford’s relegation back down to the Championship last term, with both Newcastle United and Everton said to have been interested.

The Toffees supposedly offered Watford an upfront fee of £25m plus £5m in add-ons for the signing of Pedro earlier this month, but the Hornets rebuffed their rivals’ approach.

There will seemingly not be any deadline-day drama involving the Brazilian attacker in the coming hours, as he has now revealed his plans to stay at the club on social media.

“I’m very happy here. I love being at Watford and I want to do more with them. I spoke to the board yesterday and I am fully committed to the club and looking forward to a successful season. Let’s go Hornets,” Pedro posted.

The former Fluminense youngster is under contract at Vicarage Road until the summer of 2025 and has totalled 15 goals and seven assists in 80 matches for the Hornets in all competitions.

Pedro only managed three goals from 28 Premier League appearances in 2021-22, but he has started the 2022-23 Championship season with two goals and two assists from six matches.
