Jamie Vardy sets new Premier League scoring record with Watford brace

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy levelled a Premier League goalscoring record on Sunday in the Foxes’ home clash with Watford.

The Englishman netted two goals in an eight-minute spell in the first half to fire the Midlands outfit into a 3-1 lead, after James Maddison‘s opener, with the hosts eventually coming out with a 4-2 victory.

Such a double saw Vardy take his tally to 93 league goals since turning 30, with no player in the competition’s history topping that record.

The 34-year-old is now only matched by Ian Wright, who enjoyed a productive spell with Arsenal before the turn of the decade.

Vardy’s brace took his tally to nine goals in 13 Premier League appearances so far this season, with only Liverpool marksman Mohamed Salah leading the former England international in the scoring charts.

Prior to the new season, the Leicester star netted at least 15 goals in each of the four full league campaigns following his 30th birthday, enjoying his most successful run in the 2019-20 term, in which he contributed 23 goals and five assists in the English top flight.
