How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Marseille

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte should be working with all of his first-choice options for Wednesday’s Champions League Group D opener with Marseille.

Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur were welcomed back to the first XI with open arms in Saturday’s win over Fulham, where Lucas Moura and Bryan Gil missed out again.

Neither attacker would have been expected to force their way into the starting lineup here, but Conte is still facing a quandary over who supports Harry Kane, now the Premier League’s third-highest goalscorer of all time.

Dejan Kulusevski was dropped to the bench at the weekend as Richarlison enjoyed a strong showing, setting up Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before seeing a late strike ruled out, and he is pushing for inclusion here.

Son Heung-min is still waiting for his first goal of the new season, but Conte is unlikely to consider dropping the South Korean, so Kulusevski may be forced to accept another substitute role.

Further back, Ivan Perisic‘s European experience may be favoured over Ryan Sessegnon on the left-hand side, while Hojbjerg, Bentancur and Emerson Royal complete the midfield four.

Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet was also praised by Tottenham fans following his start against Fulham, and his previous Champions League outings will benefit his chances of featuring alongside Eric Dier and Romero in front of Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham possible starting lineup: Lloris; Romero, Lenglet, Dier; Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic; Richarlison, Kane, Son
