Fulham ‘miss out on signing Justin Kluivert’

Fulham have reportedly been dealt a blow in their bid to sign new players with a deal for Roma forward Justin Kluivert having to be scrapped.

On the back of earning promotion from the Championship, the Cottagers have enjoyed a strong start to the new Premier League campaign.

Marco Silva‘s side have collected a total of eight points from five matches, their latest success coming on Tuesday night as they recorded a 2-1 triumph over previously-unbeaten Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, after the game, the Portuguese acknowledged that the club were attempting to make more fresh additions ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

If reports are to be believed, Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa and former Chelsea and Arsenal playmaker Willian will soon be signing for the West Londoners.

Nevertheless, according to The Athletic, Fulham will miss out on the acquisition of Kluivert due to work permit issues.

Roma had been prepared to accept an offer from Fulham with Kluivert not part of Jose Mourinho‘s plan at Stadio Olimpico.

Since the start of 2020-21, the wide player has spent loan periods at RB Leipzig and Nice, making a total of 58 appearances in all competitions.

However, it is claimed that those two periods away from Roma have led to the deal falling apart with Kluivert not fulfilling the criteria for a work permit.

With Fulham not eligible to submit any kind of appeal, they have been forced to walk away from the deal, as will any other Premier League clubs who may have been monitoring the situation.

Silva is now likely to target an alternative with a player required who is versatile across the forward line with backup required for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Harry Wilson is sidelined until at least the start of October, while Manor Solomon is unlikely to return from a knee injury until the spring.

As it stands, academy graduate Jay Stansfield is acting as deputy to Mitrovic, the 19-year-old already making four outings in all competitions this season.
