Cristiano Ronaldo ‘unhappy with Erik ten Hag tactics at Manchester United’

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy with Erik ten Hag‘s tactics at Manchester United, with the Portuguese believing that the team would be better off adopting a new style.

The 37-year-old’s future at Old Trafford is again being called into question, with Galatasaray the latest club to be credited with an interest in his services.

Ronaldo attempted to leave Man United over the summer, but a lack of suitors meant that he remained at Old Trafford, and he has made nine appearances for the club this term.

The experienced forward has only started one Premier League match in 2022-23, though, and he has managed just one goal during a disappointing start to the season.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are seemingly both ahead of him in the pecking order for the centre-forward spot, with two of Ronaldo’s three starts this term coming in the Europa League.

According to The Times, the veteran is unhappy with Ten Hag’s tactics during matches and has also become frustrated with the training sessions put on by the Dutchman.

The report claims that Ronaldo is hopeful that he will be able to secure a move away from Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

Bayern Munich were one of the first clubs to be linked with the Portuguese over the summer, but the German outfit’s CEO Oliver Kahn said that the team “quickly dismissed” a potential move.

“We briefly discussed Ronaldo at Bayern and [Borussia] Dortmund probably did too,” Kahn told Bild. “We also see the big picture of the Bundesliga.

“Of course, superstars like Ronaldo are an important factor in attracting attention to the league. He is one of the greatest of the last decade. But we quickly dismissed that.”

The forward has scored 143 goals and registered 63 assists in 339 appearances for Man United during two separate spells, including 24 goals in all competitions last term.

Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Omonia but was unable to find the back of the net in his side’s 3-2 win despite having a host of chances.

“I think the first two [shots he had produced] good saves from the goalie. He had a couple of chances, also he created a couple of chances. He was in for a good move and run for the first goal with Marcus Rashford, so he had an impact in this game,” Ten Hag told reporters after the game in Cyprus.

According to ESPN, Man United are still expecting to keep hold of Ronaldo in January, as there are a lack of suitors for the attacker.

The Portuguese’s contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next June, although the 20-time English champions are able to extend the agreement for a further 12 months.
