Adam Forshaw signs new contract with Leeds United

Leeds United have announced that midfielder Adam Forshaw has signed a new contract with the club.

The 30-year-old, whose initial deal was due to expire in the summer, has put pen to paper on a one-year extension until June 2023, with the option of a further 12 months.

Following Marcelo Bielsa‘s arrival as head coach in the summer of 2018, Forshaw became a key player for the Whites, however, the midfielder picked up a serious hip injury in a Championship game with Charlton Athletic in October 2019, which would keep him out of action for 22 months.

After successful surgery and rehab, Forshaw returned to first-team action in August 2021 and has worked his way back into Bielsa’s starting lineup, making 17 appearances across all competitions this season.

Speaking of his delight in signing a new deal at Elland Road, Forshaw told the club’s official website: “I’m happy and proud, I’ve worked hard to get to this point. I kept going, working and chipping away every day with the physios and fitness coaches and I’m fortunate to be in this position again.

“The biggest battle was getting pain free and fit and once I knew I would be pain free and withstand the load, I was confident in my ability that I could get back to the required level, it was just the first hurdle I had to get over.

“I have a lot to thank Marcelo Bielsa for, after getting back in the team he’s repaid his trust in me and kept me in the team so far.

“It seemed like he had a plan for me in the summer in terms of minutes and made me feel wanted still and that I was still a part of his plans and I like to think that is the case now. I’ve put a good run of games together and long may it continue.”

Forshaw will be in contention to start for Leeds on Sunday when they travel to the London Stadium for their Premier League encounter against West Ham United.
